Building a modern home? Explore the latest home design trends in 2021.

The year 2021 is an excellent year for modern home designs. Of all the house trends and styles in the limelight this year, modern design is gaining the most number of followers. We, after all, live in modern times now, so it’s just right that we design our homes in contemporary style, right? So, what are some of the best current design trends this year? Check them out in the list below.

Balconies on Bedrooms

A design trend we’ll see a lot in 2021 is integrating balconies in our sleeping sanctuaries. This design conveys a sense of outdoors into our bedroom — creating places to breathe fresh air and watch the world below. If you live somewhere remote with lots of nature, a balcony in your bedroom can be a fantastic place to unwind and relax. It can be a place to do some stretches and yoga first thing in the morning.

Pivoting Doors

Designers are finding sliding doors somewhat dated now. So, we’ll be seeing many homes with glazed patio doors that pivot — providing large frames of glass that let natural light in – This is a fantastic way to get some sunlight even when you’re indoors.

Bigger Kitchens

In the past years, people didn’t think much about their kitchen space. As we’ve been cooking a lot in our homes, we’ve realised how small our kitchens are. So, this year we’ll see a lot of houses with open plan kitchens. Kitchens with islands and carefully chosen cabinets that do not match counters but compliment them will be a big hit. Bigger kitchens will become the main areas to accommodate guests instead of living rooms.

Office Spaces

Office space will be a necessity in every home now that many people will be working remotely. Previously, people would work on their kitchen counters or desks placed in their bedroom. Seeing how unproductive they have been in these spaces, most of them will be looking to add a dedicated room to work. They also want to make their office spaces aesthetically calming and focus on improving the ambience and design.

Resilient Landscapes

Traditional homes require a lot of maintenance and are always due for repairs. Now that we’re reaching a point when our climate and weather have drastically changed for the worse, most modern houses will be built to handle all these elements. We’ll see modern house designs emphasising the use of durable, high-quality, and sustainable materials. We’ll also see more home designs that seriously consider landscaping safety, shorelines, and the development of features that can mitigate problems caused by floodwater.

Solar Thermal Panels

Solar power is no longer limited to huge homes. As solar energy cost goes lower and lower, many homeowners will invest in solar panels to keep their carbon footprints lower and live a more eco-conscious lifestyle. This renewable electricity-generating technology can also help them save money from energy bills. They can also save more money, as some states give tax benefits to panel owners.
